There were even cocktails being made out of Harveys Sherry. It’s part of a push to encourage British people to sample the Spanish experience, and hopefully encourage even more of us to take a trip to Spain on holiday. Ken Ken Frank, has spent more than two- thirds of his life in the kitchen. He learned how to cook in France then moved in Los Angeles where he became a celebrity chef with his restaurant La Toque on Sunset pioneering food and wine pairing there. After running it for 15 years He moved to Napa because he says La Toque has always been a “wine restaurant” and he opened his new La Toque inside the Westin, a true ”wine Hotel”. Since the 70’s Ken has been experimenting with classic technique using the freshest local ingredients. Napa offered immediate access to fresh produce and the best heritage meat suppliers of Northern California. “Moving to Napa Valley was the smartest thing I’ve ever done,” says Frank. “I couldn’t have this kind of restaurant just anywhere.” From his early days in France Ken’s passion for innovation has always been fueled by his attachment to the soil . His move to Napa is part of his journey toward finding his authenticity as a chef in a rich natural environment. So what if it takes a little more travel time to eat at his restaurant? People will keep coming because excellence is the magnet. Michelin stars earned in 2007 and 2009 attest to that. This is a spectacular resort at the foot of Mount Kenya, the second tallest mountain in Africa. n 1989, the owners saw potential for a luxury tented camp in this space and set out a plan to build 40 tents with a rustic main building and facilities that would rival the best camps in the Mara and the Serengeti. The main building would house a dining room, bar and reception area for the comfort of our Guests. The grounds would feature winding paths through lush flora and boast a swimming pool and observation areas to gather and gaze at the hippos, the crocs and the incredible bird life that inhabits this part of Kenya. The Mara Safari Club opened its doors in 1989 as an offshoot of Mount Kenya Safari Club, hence the name Safari Club. The Club stands on 100 acres of land, leased from the late Senior Chief Lerionka Ole Ntutu. A tented sanctuary lying at the foot of the Aitong Hills, the Mara Safari Club is surrounded on three sides by the Mara River, on the edge of the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve. The land the Club sits on was an old hunting camp that had been converted to use for photo tours with the ban on hunting in Kenya in 1976. Originally the retreat of the movie star and his friends, the Club's illustrious former members have included Winston Churchill and Bing Crosby. less

The medieval castle from the days of the Crusades is at the entrance of its beautiful harbor. So is 4 star Almyra Hotel built right on the water facing it. The Church of the Holy Chrisopolitissa dates from the 13th century. Many pillars still standing are believed to be part of the old roman forum. Here is the pillar of St Paul where according to tradition St Paul was chained and flogged for preaching Christianity At night Paphos comes alive. The Paphos castle once the fort of the knights of St John welcomes culture. During the summer operas are performed there it with the open seas as a backdrop. This is a windy setting for music but uniquely dramatic. The Kato Pafhos archaeological site became a UNESCO World Heritage Site 1980. Spread over a vast area, The Tombs of the Kings are these impressive underground tombs carved out of solid rock dating back to the 4th century BC. Archeologists are busy uncovering remarkable mosaics. Every Roman villa built here in the 2nd, 3rd and to 4th century had elaborate mosaic floor, which have been amazingly preserved. The mosaics tell us that Cyprus has been cultivating wine for 2,500 years. In a village near Paphos at the Aphrodite delight factory one can see the making of a typical Cyprus sweet called loukkoumi. Although loukumi is made all over the world the only protected geographical area of the European union is Yeroskipou, home to the authentic Cypriot sweet. The western coast is full of coves and secluded beaches with some of the most pristine waters in the Mediterranean. Further up is the port of Latchi. This is a fishing town with some great seafood to taste at its outdoor restaurant. Nearby is the Hotel Anassa a 5 star luxury hotel with sweeping views of the bay North of Paphos is the mountain village of Kathika which has an ideal climate for grape growing The Sterna winery a small artisan like winery typical of the area which use local varieties of grapes Mavro and Xynistery South of Pafhos is the Rock of Aphrodite, where according to legend Aphrodite the goddess of love sprung out of the water. On the way to Limassol is the temple of Apollo Hylates one of the best-preserved archeological sites on the island. What remains of the temple is impressive as well as theater of nearby Kourion and its mosaics The Trodos mountains are the main wine-growing region of Cyprus due to the elevation and the quality of the soil. The village of Kakopetria is a main tourist attraction It’s vintage time and OLYMPUS winery in the Trodos mountains is busy picking grapes. The Kolossi castle in the middle of vineyards and sugar cane plantations was occupied by the Knights of St John after the Crusades. The knights produced here for the first time the well-known dessert wine called commanderia. In Limassol it wine festival time, where wineries from all over Cyprus come to pitch their wines. Cyprus although a very small island ranks 37th in wine production in the world. less
