It is 80 miles from Chichen Itza, one of the most impressive Mayan cities. In the 19th century the sisal boom created enormous wealth. In 1900 there were more millionaires in Merida than in Paris. In the last ten years visitors from Northamerica and Europe have been buying them and restoring them to their original splendor like this mansion in the center of town. less
