Filmmaker’s Contest

Submit your best travel videos and be on National Cable TV

Winning videos also earn $500

If you know how to tell a travel story, if you have been in the right place at the right time, if you have an eye for the unique, the human, the bizarre and the universal... you stand a really good chance.

We are running a contest to select the best videos to be featured in a Compulsive Traveler TV show. We are the producers of “The Compulsive Traveler” series that has aired periodically since 2002 on CBS TV in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami and other CBS markets.

Many of our video segments from the TV series are on http://www.compulsivetraveler.tv/ as well as stories from filmmakers from all over the world.

We are now inviting you, the filmmaker, to compete in a contest that will allow you to be on our Compulsive Traveler Television show. You don’t have to wait years to be on national television. If you know how to tell a travel story, if you have been in the right place at the right time, if you have an eye for the unique, the human, the bizarre and the universal... you stand a really good chance.

Take your travel stories straight to videos and we’ll take them straight to broadcast if you make the cut.

Your videos will be screened by a panel of film and travel professionals and the top 50 submitted to users vote on our website. The top final 9 videos will be featured in a Compulsive Traveler national cable show to air in the Fall of '08. Furthermore, all nine filmmakers will be hired to produce other segments. So upload your current videos if any or go out and shoot some. Take a chance. You might be on TV sooner than you think.

Here are the rules:

  • No more than 2 minutes in length
  • Deadline for upload: March 31st, 2008 (see upload requirements)
  • You can submit as many videos as you would like
  • Anyone can vote on the selection of the best videos
  • Videos from our own production team (RPM Media) will not be considered for the contest.

If your video is voted to be among the top 9 finalists, in order to be of broadcast quality, you will need to deliver a high resolution video for broadcast. A Quicktime file, size 720X480 at 30 frames is acceptable and can be uploaded. Or you can mail a tape: accepted tape formats are minidv, dvcam, HDcam and Beta.

The producers of the top 9 videos will also receive a royalty fee of $500. The TV show will air in Fall of '08.

You will own the content of the video but you will grant compulsivetraveler.tv all rights of distribution of the segment on TV and on the web without further compensation to you.

So take your travel stories straight to videos and we’ll take them straight to broadcast if you make the cut.
